Q. What to expect:
A. Thursday afternoon: After you check in, Charmayne will evaluate each student and their horse on barrels and she rides each horse for a more complete assessment. This usually begins around 1pm, but review the Details and Schedules under the clinic you wish to attend for exact times. Following evaluations, Charmayne gives a brief talk so you have a chance to know her better. After that, Randy Riedinger, Equine Dentist, presents a lecture.

Friday: Half the group works with Charmayne while the other half works with her instructors. Charmayne works with each student until they understand and are able to apply the techniques that she teaches. They must then work at home to perfect. This is important because problems are not corrected overnight and require time and practice using the correct techniques. Horses learn by repetition. Watching the other students while they are being instructed is also part of the learning process. At the end of each day, students from my group are given the opportunity to go through the barrels one more time for evaluation and instruction.

Practical horsemanship is so important if you want to be a successful barrel racer. All students need to be aware of leads, hand and body position and timing.

Friday evening Daryl Elliot will give his demonstration on equine chiropractic.

On Saturday, the groups switch (the group that worked with Charmayne on Friday will work with her instructors and vice-versa).

Sunday: Charmayne gives a talk on mental preparation and attitude and takes questions. She then has the entire group go through the barrels again for final evaluation and instruction. She will be available for pictures and autographs.
Q. How much do I need to pay to reserve my spot in a clinic?
A. Full payment is required to reserve your spot in a clinic. You may pay by credit card online when you register, or mail a check after completing the online registration. The current fee for a 4-day clinic (Thursday - Sunday) is $595.
Q. Will we be able to hear Charmayne instruct?
A. Yes. Charmayne will be wearing a headset that works with a loud speaker.
Q. How can I get Charmayne to put on a clinic in my area?
A. Send us an email, including where you live. When we go on the road we try to go to areas that have shown the most clinic interest. If you are an arena owner or manager and have a facility or know of a facility near you, please send information about it also.
Q. Will Charmayne ride my horse?
A. Yes.
Q. How many students per clinic?
A. 32
Q. What is the age limit?
A. There is not one. The age of previous students has ranged from six to seventy two.
Q. Do we take beginner riders?
A. Yes ? It is best to learn the correct way, before bad habits are formed, even if you are only walking and trotting.
Q. Can I take more than one horse to the clinic?
A. Yes, you may bring more than one horse and change horses during the clinic. There is an extra charge of $100 per horse if you want more than 1 horse evaluated on Thursday afternoon, time permitting.
Q. Is there an equine dentist on hand?
A. Yes. Randy Riedinger MCEqD (Master Certified Equine Dentist). He will be checking horses that I suspect have problems. All students should understand what is going on in their horses' mouth.
Q. Will Randy Riedinger work on my horse at the clinic?
A. Yes, but only if you want the work done. IT IS NOT REQUIRED. I may send you to the dentist to check the mouth so I know if there are problems and if so, I know what to ask of the horse, and what bit might be the best. By popular demand, students have wanted Randy to do the work once they see the problems in their horse's mouth.
Q. How much does the dentist cost?
A. The evaluation is free. Actual dental work could cost from $95 - $320 depending on the extent of the work. This is usually a small price to pay for the well being of your horse and the tremendous impact on his health. If you can't afford it, sometimes Randy can work out a payment plan with you.
Q. Will Charmayne still work with me if I do not get the dentistry work done.
A. Yes. Our goal is to help everyone.
Q. Can I ride my horse and still work with Charmayne after having his dental work done.
A. Yes. Most horses ride much better immediately following the work.
Q. Does Charmayne have an equine chiropractor at the clinics?
A. Yes. Daryl Elliott, Equine Chiropractor.
Q. Will Daryl work on my horse at the clinic?
A. Yes, but only if you want the work done. If I think there is a physical problem with your horse I will ask you to have Daryl perform an evaluation. The fee for the evaluation is $40.00.
Q. If I do not want Daryl to work on my horse will Charmayne still work with me?
A. Yes.
Q. Is the price of the dentist and chiropractor included in the clinic fee?
A. No.
Q. Is there a veterinarian available at the clinic?
A. If your horse needs medical treatment during the clinic the treatment must be by a local veterinarian.
Q. Will there be a horseshoer at the clinic?
A. If your horse needs a farrier during the clinic we will assist you in contacting a local farrier.
Q. What should I bring to the clinic?
A. Bring the hay and grain you have been feeding, buckets for feed and water, vet supplies in case of emergency such as bandaging, bute or banamine, rake to keep your stall clean, and shavings if you do not want to purchase them at the clinic or if they are not available at the clinic (check out the details for each clinic).
Q. What is the fee to audit or be a spectator at Charmayne's clinics?
A. There is no charge for spectators.
